Making Runewords

To make a Runeword, you must place a specific combination of runes into a
socketed item.The item will change into a unique item. The name will
be displayed in gold,and the item will acquire extra powers.
Sounds easy enough, and it is if you follow some rules.

1) Runewords can only be made from normal socketed items.
This means you CANNOT make a runeword from a magical, unique, set items or Wirt's Leg.

2) The item must have the exact number of sockets the recipe calls for, not more not less.

3) The runes must be placed in the item, in the exact order stated in the recipe.
If the recipe calls for a Shael and an Eth Rune, you place the Shael first, then the Eth.

4) A Runeword can only be made in the item (or items) listed for that Runeword. If the Recipe calls for a sword, then it will not work if you use an axe. So always double check, before making!

5)The rune Io looks a lot like Lo. Make sure you use the correct one.
Runewords will only work, if you use the correct runes.

6) If you experiment with runes, trying to create new recipes, it's at your own risk. This site is not responsible for lost runes or items. For that matter, Blizzard will not replace any item lost while making runewords either.

7) Runewords can be made on Ladder, Non-Ladder, Open and Single Player games. *NOTE - Not all Runewords can be made everywhere, so please check the recipe.

8) The quality of a Runeword, is affected by the quality of item you make it with. This means, always use the best item you can for optimum results.

9)When you create a Runeword, you still receive all of the bonuses,
that were already on each rune you socketed.

Item Type Descriptions:

Body Armor = Any armor worn on the chest, NOT any other armor such as boots, helms or gloves.

Helms = Any armor that is worn on the head, including helms, Barbarian Helms, Druid Pelts, and Circlets.

Shield = Any armor used to block, including shields, Necromancer Shrunken Heads, and Paladin Shields.

Clubs = Club, Spiked Club, and Exceptional/Elite versions.

Hammers = War Hammer, Maul, Great Maul, and Exceptional/Elite versions.

Maces = Mace, Morning Star, Flail, and Exceptional/Elite versions. This does not include any other types of Maces.

Melee Weapons = Any weapon that isn't ranged such as a Sword or Hammer.
A Bow or Crossbow is a ranged weapon. Sorceress Orbs are not considered Melee Weapons.

Missile Weapons = Bows and Crossbows

Weapons = Melee Weapons, Missile Weapons, Orbs

Scepters = Scepter, Grand Scepter, War Scepter, and Exceptional/Elite versions.
